The Addiction Deception

According to the psychologytoday.com website, an addiction is “Addiction is a condition in which a person engages in use of a substance or in a behavior for which the rewarding effects provide a compelling incentive to repeatedly pursue the behavior despite detrimental consequences.”

The problem with addictions is that we don't realize the negative impact it has in our lives since we feel good when ever we succumb to it. In the west, we have a level of comfort such that it's easy for us to develop all sorts of addictions. At the click of a button, we can access tv shows, play video games or watch material geared towards adults. We have easy access to liquor, fast food and all sorts of other items that can consume our lives.

None of these are problems if we limit our exposure to them but it becomes a problem when it starts to consume our thoughts during the day.
It is a problem when we skip social interactions in favor of them.
It is a problem when we turn to these things the first chance we get.
It is a problem when we have fight we people close to us because of it.
Maybe the biggest problem is with the illusion that we have control over our addictions. We tell ourselves “I can quit anytime”. Deep down we know this to be a lie.

Don't be deceived by addictions. Identify them and fight them off.
